MRI and CT scan on the NH44 corridor

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses magnetic fields rather than radiation to produce detailed pictures of the brain, spine, joints, and soft tissues. It is central to neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and oncology.

Computed tomography (CT) is faster and is the first-line scan in emergencies—head injury, suspected stroke, chest and abdominal trauma. Aravinda Hospitals is planning its CT scanner close to the emergency department and trauma care unit so that a patient can be scanned within minutes of arrival, in the Golden Hour when decisions matter most.

Both modalities will be reported by the radiology and imaging team and shared instantly with treating doctors through the hospital information system (HIS) and digital medical records—no films to carry between departments.

Digital X-ray, ultrasound, and colour Doppler

Digital X-ray remains the quickest way to look at bones and lungs. Digital detectors reduce the radiation dose compared with film and produce images that can be viewed on any ward or clinic screen moments after exposure.

Ultrasound is safe, painless, and radiation-free, which is why it is the mainstay of obstetric and gynaecological care and of abdominal and kidney assessment. Colour Doppler adds blood-flow information, allowing the team to assess blocked arteries, varicose veins, blood supply to a growing baby, and the function of dialysis access.

These services will sit close to the outpatient department, so most tests requested in a clinic visit can be completed on the same day.

Endoscopy and day-care diagnostics

Endoscopy lets a gastroenterologist see directly inside the food pipe, stomach, and bowel using a thin, flexible camera. It is used to diagnose ulcers, bleeding, reflux, and early cancers, and to treat some conditions during the same procedure.

Aravinda Hospitals is planning a dedicated endoscopy and day-care suite with its own recovery area, so patients having a short procedure can go home the same day. Bronchoscopy for pulmonology and cystoscopy for urology will use the same clean, well-monitored environment.

Laboratory services and blood storage & transfusion

A comprehensive hospital laboratory is being planned to cover clinical biochemistry, haematology, microbiology, clinical pathology, and histopathology, led by the pathology and laboratory medicine department. Automated analysers and barcoded samples reduce errors and turnaround time, with 24×7 emergency testing for the ICUs, emergency department, and operation theatres.

Blood storage and transfusion services will ensure that blood and blood components are available when a trauma patient, a surgical patient, or a mother in the labour and delivery suite needs them—without waiting for supplies to arrive from a distant city. Every unit will be tested, cross-matched, and traced through the HIS in line with national transfusion standards.
